Gradually Weaned From Premarin, Have Hot Flashes, Tired, Weight Loss. Reasons ?

I took Premarin (.625) for 25 years after I had my complete hysterectomy at age 30. I felt great while on it, but was scared out of taking it by well-meaning people. So I gradually weaned off of it about 6 years ago. I know I'm 6 years older, but wonder if I would feel better going back on it. I'm having hot flashes again and feel so tired and have gained weight. My joints ache with arthritis and just feel SO much older. I visited my nurse practitioner today and she agrees I can go back on something. But she gave me a choice between my Premarin (starting at first at a lower dose than before, just to get started) OR Minivelle the estradiol patch. I don't know what to do. Please help me out here. Thank you!

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Premarine i.e.estrogen prescribed after hysterectomy and you took it almost for 25 years .
Now you are feeling hot flushes and joint pain , all are actually due to withdrawal of estrogen or we can due to menopause syndrome ( absence of estrogen ) .
So if you afford you can take estrogen or estradiol without any side effects .
If you want to get rid of these symptoms then alternative approaches are there such as venlafaxine 75 -150 mg ,but consultation of doctor must be.
Clonidine & Vitamin E is also a substitute of estrogen ,but only for menopausal syndrome symptoms.
Hope I have answered your question.
If further any question I will HELP.
Good luck.
