Gas And Mucous In Stool. Had Inguinal Hernia Operation, Taking Antibiotics. Is It Related To Surgery?
My 67 year-old husband had an inguinal hernia operation for a large hernia approximately 4 months ago. A mesh patch had to be used for repair. He was prescribed antibiotics for a few days. Shortly afterwards he developed loud gas and mucous in his stool. Stool was not fully formed. Could it be related to his surgery?
Hello user, As per your history, your husband had been operated recently for hernia, and a mesh has been placed.
There are many reasons for above complains, it might be due to high grade antibiotics which had caused natural bacterial flora to die causing abnormal stool with mucus. It might also be due to some drugs which might be given to him to prevent hard stools.
I would rather advice you to make appointment with your surgeon and ask him as he will try to diagnose the cause by refering to your history and condition before surgery.
hope my info helped you regards, Dr Hari Om Chandrakar MBBS
