Experiencing Liver Problems, Pre Diabetic Symptoms. History Of Using Simvastatin For Long Time. Can Switch To Lovastatin?

1. Does Lovastatin have as many side effects as Simvastatin?
I have used Simvastatin 20 mg for years now. Prior to that I was taking 40 mg of Simvastatin.
2. Also, is there a link between this drug and Diabetes and or Liver Disease? I have reason to believe that it has caused me to become Pre-Diabetic, since I never had that problem before. Nor have any of my family members been prone to Diabetes - at least not that I am aware of.
3. Also, I am experiencing Liver problems...

Thank-you.

Hi,
welcome to HCM,

1. we should always overweigh the benefits of a drug to the side effects. so every pill will have some side effects. simvastatin do have and myopathy is common side effect. Apart from this no serious side effects seen normally.

2. there is NO link between diabetes and use of simvastatin or lovastatin

3. But yes partially....in few cases there is increase in liver enzymes which indicate mild hepatic injury. But its not considered seriously.

Now a days prescribing simva/lovastatin is very common in every patient of cholesterol problem/heart problem, you dont need to go deep into it....
