It is very common to find the cylindrical prescription (astigmatism in medical terms) among Children these days.I would say atleast 15-30% of Children have this problem due to their irregular shape of the transparent front part of their eye(Cornea).They have blurry vision for all distances which fortunately is treatable especially when detected at very early childhood. I am glad that your doctor diagnosed it and I hope your daughter started wearing glasses as well.I can share my own personal experience as my daughter was diagnosed with astigmatism when she was 2.5yrs and she started using glasses right away.As a mother I thought my child should see things clearly and the way it is supposed to be. So,I would suggest -You to encourage her to wear glasses full time -the prescription might keep changing, as normally, the eye attains it full growth around puberty.So have regular eye exam as adviced by your doctor. -how much prescription change?!-varies among individuals. But I do notice that your daughter has a significant difference in prescription between right and left eye.I would advice you to take her to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist ,in your area, to assess for binocularity,eye alignment and patching exercises if required .These are done so both the eyes are seen equally at all times. -I wouldn t say its as olution to reduce the power,but helping her learn to use the glasses all times will definitely give her the best visual outcome when she is all grown up.
