Does The Consumption Of Deer Meat Cause Viral Infection?
I had a patient in ICU with a diffuse pneumonitis/ARDS. He ultimately died of multi organ system failure. He had dressed (skinned, butchered) two deer recently. He also ingested the raw deer meat. Could he have had a parapox virus infection? Can it cause pneumonia?
I don't recall skin lesions but will study his chart again.

Yes he has having infection with some virus while butchering animal or by eating raw meat.
The infection ca be anything like RFT virus or ebola like virus that lead to diffuse pneumonitis and ARDS.
For correct diagnosis serological test has to be done according to suspician.
And these viruses can lead to pneumonia.
