Does Bacterial Conjunctivitis Also Cause Sore Throat And Blocked Nostrils?

Hello, I was diagnosed today with bacterial conjunctivitis in my right eye & was given drops to treat it; however, now I am developing a sore throat & a stuffy nose. Is this a symptom of the pink eye or am I developing another virus on top of the one I already have?

Hi,

Noted the history about conjunctivitis in right eye, sore throat and blocked nostril. all together indicate the following:
- Infection in respiratory tract.
- Retrograde spread of infection from nose to the eyes causing conjunctivitis.
- Hence you need the following:
- Oral antibiotic that can cover all infections.
- Anti-inflammatory.
- Decongestants, oral as well as nasal drops.
- Eye drops, cleaning of the eyes with normal saline.
- Symptomatic and supportive treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
