What Causes Bacterial Conjunctivitis?

I have had bacterial conjunctivitis every 4 weeks now for the last 5 months. It appears within a day or two either side of getting my period and is characterised by bright red eyes, sharp eye pain, headache and 'gluey' eyes on waking. I am scrupulously clean and have thrown away all cosmetics and toiletries that could be causing a problem several times. I get the distinct feeling that this is hormonal due to the uncanny timing everny month. Any ideas?

Conjunctivitis is because of infection caused by bacteria or by viruses.
Hormonal variation will not gave any effect on the onset or duration of conjunctivitis.
Hence your menstrual periods are probably not related to conjunctivitis.
But stress associated with periods may be responsible for infection of the eyes because of ease of susceptibility.

Thank you
