Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a therapist and I have a patient who has had a heart valve replaced 5 years ago. She was born in 1941. She has had recent hallucinations and is on risperdone 1mg now. Are there any contraindications of this medication with metoprolol 75mg 2x per day.
It is not safe to take Risperidone drug while on Metoprolol drug, but needs careful monitoring.
Risperidone and Metoprolol may have additive effects in lowering blood pressure which may result in headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.
These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption.
She should consult her doctor if she develops these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. She should also avoid getting abruptly from a sitting or lying position.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
