Does Melatonin Cause Hives?

I have been taking melatonin every night to help with sleep and I also break out into hives every night. At this point it has been more than a year, therefore, I m not sure which came first but I m asking if it s possible that melatonin can cause hives.

Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Hives are indicative of an allergic reaction which can be due to anything including melatonin. The way to determine that would be to skip melatonin for a couple of days and see if you still get the hives. If the hives occur inspite of withholding melatonin, then it is not due to melatonin. If there are no hives, restart the melatonin and if it recurs, it settles the issue and you know it is due to melatonin.
Do get back to me if you have more queries.
