Hi & Welcome.
Yes, it can.

Lipitor (Atorvastatin) is a cholesterol lowering medication which works by decreasing its production in the liver. Lowering "bad" cholesterol & triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol it decreases the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.

Its most common side effects include myopathy (muscle pain, tenderness or weakness), liver dysfunction and stomach upset.

You seem to have developed myopathy reflected in the form of back pain. So, stop taking it.

Since you seem to be suffering from familial hypercholesterolemia, so you should take other alternate effective cholesterol lowering medication like Cholestyramine to prevent the complications of high cholesterol.

Hope the advice given above would be useful.
