Hi, I am 39 weeks pregnant. My baby is not getting engaged properly. Ultrasound results shows that the baby has cord around 3 sides of the neck ie like a garland on the baby's neck. In this case, shall i wait for labor and natural delivery or is it advisable to go for C section as my doctor suggests?
Thank you for the question and thank you for visiting our site.
This is a difficult question. Not only is it common for a baby to NOT engage in the pelvis under NORMAL circumstances, but it is also normal to have loops of cord around the neck. Often we do not even know about it until it is an issue during labor. While I do not think that it would be unreasonable to consider a C-section, it is also reasonable to wait and see how the baby tolerates labor. There is no right answer here. If the baby never engages in the pelvis and you don't go into labor, then I would certainly agree that a C-section would trump an induction.
I hope that this helps and good luck!
