hi there, an isolated episode of high blood sugar does not prove that you are diabetic. First of all get a total work up of your blood done with fasting sugars, post prandial sugar levels and a GTT to confirm diabetes. Once it is confirmed then you need to start taking action to controll it rather than panic. To answer your questions, first yes ,uncontrolled diabetes can be fatal, diabetics who keep their blood sugars under conroll with proper diet, medication and exercise following all the dos and don'ts for diabetics can live a healthy and long life. You will need to consuylt a diabetologist and a diet conultant to advice you a proper diet chart, controlled diabetes does not hamper your work or your working ability,a diabetic can have unprotected sex with his /her partner and does not have an increased risk for sexually transmitted disease as compared to a non diabetic. Diabetes is not a sexually transmitted disease, diabetics can be social drinkers and drink in limited quantities, hypertention can be an accompaniment of diabetes andso it also should be addressed along with the primary condition, you need not get stressed about the disease but a good diet plan along with exercise, medication and healthy lifestyle can keep you fit and active for a long and complication free life.Take appropriate action for it and do not be paranoid. You can know more about diabetes from various sites on the internet dedicated to this topic. Take care.
