Cramps Without Bleeding. Had Cyst On Ovary While Pregnant And Had Miscarriage. What Could Be The Possible Reason?

Hello

I lost my baby last Wednesday? Tuesday morning around 3am I got some light cramps, but no bleeding. I had an appointment with my Dr at 13h00 the following day for my 12week scan. I called in early to see whether I could see her when she opened, and we went there after 8am. I also need to tell you that I had a cyst on my right ovary while I was pregnant. by the time I laid down for my ultrasound (on my stomach), the cramps were less. I told my dr. As the ultrasound came on, I was relieved to see my baby, but in a few seconds my Dr said that there was no hearbeat and that the scan read that the baby was only 10weeks. She said that the cyst did burst and that she could see the fluid, but that the cyst could not have caused the baby's death. within a less than 5 minutes she put of the ultrasound and said that I need to book into hospital so that the baby can come down. I was devestated!! On my 8 weeks scan everything was perfect. I then in about an hour went to the hospital where they then inserted 2 tables for the baby to come down. I then in a while started to bleed, but nothing happened. I couple of hours later, the sister inserted 2 more tables, but still nothing happened, only the bleeding and some cramps. about 8h00pm I was taken to theatre where the baby and placenta was removed by my Dr and she did a scrape. I am so unsure of what happened and have all these questions and worries. I was never sure when I had my last menstruation, so I guessed it was in January, but it could easily have been in February, which would have made my a shorter period pregnant, so I could have been only 10weeks when there was no hearbeat on the scan. I was not offered a further scan or a waiting period, which I now so badly wish that I had asked for. But I was in such a shock and so hearbroken and trusted my Dr and just followed and did what I was told to do. I have asked her to do tests, I need to know what caused the baby's death. Will the tests give my some answers? Was this the correct route to go?

Hello,
Its most unfortunate that you lost your baby and your questions still remain unanswered.
1. The difference in dates (January or February) should not matter. A difference of 2 weeks is acceptable in the 12 weeks scan.
2. The ovarian cyst is unlikely to cause any damage (going by your doctor). The exact size of your ovarian cyst I suppose was small.
3. No heartbeat on a 12 week scan is better confirmed by two doctors to reduce the chances of an error. I suppose your doctor is qualified and will not make an error on that.
4. You have not reported of any amniotic fluid loss through the vagina in the preceeding days or any injury to the lower part of your abdomen, these can cause sudden fetal demise.

It is very difficult at the moment to pin point the cause with certainty, but I am sure you will take necessary precautions for your next pregnancy.
