Cramps, Nausea, Swollen Breasts. Taking Metformin For Treatment For PCOS. Pregnant Or Side Effects Of Medicine?
I was been diagnosed with PCOS 2 months back. Since we decided to have baby my doctor put me on Metformin 1000mg per day. Its almost 2months now i am taking the tablet, I never had any side effects. But now I am 5 day due for period but i am having cramps and nausea, and swollen breast. My question is is there any chance of being pregnant?? Plase suggest
Basically in PCOS performing is very good drug .r u taking 1000mg at a time ?start 500 mg first then increased the dose gradually .can avoid the cramps ,nausea ,swollen breast .regarding ur pregnancy no worry at all metformin can not work as a contraceptive .u can get pregnant .in periods these kind of symptoms r common due to harmonic changes .
Treatment for PCOS varies. A different treatment regimen is advised to unmarried woman or married woman not planning to conceive, married woman trying to conceive.
The first regimen involves helping the woman to normalize her mesntrual cycle and metformin in particular also promotes weight loss. Whereas, the second regimen helps in conception. Usually women with PCOS trying to conceive are advised clomiphene; which you have not been advised yet.
But, even without the help of clomiphene many women do sucessfully get pregnant. So chances of getting pregnant are about 50-60 % now, but will be raised once your treatment regimen is shifted over to clomiphene.
