Could The Excessive Salivation Be Due To Anxiety From Unprotected Sex?
Hi! The past two or three days I ve had some excessive salivation after eating and it usually occurs when I begin to feel extremely anxious and nervous. I am worried because my birth control shot expired last week and my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex a few days after it expired, although he pulled out. I am currently bleeding, I have been since before the unprotected sex due to the Depo I ve experienced this side effect since I got it and I think the unprotected sex has caused this anxiety that has in turn caused this salivation issue. Could that be right?
Certainly, if you are worried about anything, especially the risk of pregnancy, it is normal to have other symptoms of anxiety during this time. If you have excessive salivation from nervousness normally, then certainly your situation could precipitate this to occur at this time.
I do hope to ease your worry by letting you know that it is extremely unlikely that you would become pregnant from one episode of unprotected sex a few days after your shot is due, especially if you are bleeding and your boyfriend did not ejaculate inside you. However, to ease your mind, I suggest you return to the provider who gave you the contraceptive shot before and either get another or begin another method of birth control.
I hope I was adequately able to answer your question today and that my advice was reassuring.
Best wishes, Dr. Brown
