Could Post Nasal Drip Be Causing Sore Throat?

Hello. I have had a sore throat for about a week now. I went to my PCP about 4 days ago and he prescribed me Flonase, suggesting that post nasal drip is causing my sore throat. Just last night I noticed a small round sore on my uvula. The sore is round with regular borders and is white in color with a slight red halo surrounding. Any ideas what this might be? As a side note, I am an immunosuppressed transplant patient and am showing no symptoms other than the white sore and soreness in the upper back part of my throat.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Yes, it is true that infected post nasal drip can lead to infection in throat and inflammation of uvula causing Uvulitis and the sore on throat is also secondary to infection..

As you are on immunosuppressants the severity of infection can be high..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advise you antibiotics like Amoxicillin, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and using a humidifier in your room an help..
Decongestants and mycolytics can also be advised..
Sip on plenty of warm water..
Suck throat lozenges..
Avoid spicy and hard foods..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
