Could Headaches, Head Pressure And Pain Be Due To Scalp Injury?

My husband got hit in the head with an iron pipe 12 days ago, it put a gash on his scalp and it bleed a good bit but he did not feel that he needed to go to a doctor. 7 days after this happened, He left to go to work offshore, but on the first night out there, when he would lay down to sleep he would get a really bad headache, it feels like a pressure like you would get when you have sinus trouble. 2 days later he said it hurts all the time whether he is standing or laying down, it's a pressure all around his head, but he cannot leave his oil rig to come in unless it would be an emergency, so can you tell me if the headaches would be caused from getting hit in the head even though it's been that long ago? and what should he do or take for it? He's been taking tylenol & advil every 2 to 3 hours. Thank you for your time! Deena Savoie

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. It is good that your husband is having no other symptoms except headache. Head injury can cause headache which may persist for few days to weeks. It is mostly dull or throbbing type, occurs in whole head, increases with stress/exertion/work requiring concentration, relief with rest. It is similar to Stress headache.

If your husband is having most of above mentioned features, it could be post injury headache only. Do not worry about it.

You can ask him to follow below mentioned tips to get relief

: Bed rest for 1 week
: Avoid bright light/noise/mental or physical stress
: Maintain 8 hour sleep routine. Avoid insomnia
: You can ask him to take painkiller like Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
: Avoid pressure at injury site
: If still no relief, ask him to consult doctor. The doctor might evaluate him and check his vision, blood pressure, local examination of injury site to reach upto some conclusion. Further treatment will be decided after confirming diagnosis.

Hope it will help him.

Thanks. Take care.
