Could Gestational Sac With No Fetal Pole While Having Small Fibroids Be Bliggted Ovum?

Hello. My LMP was January 1st. The only day i had intercourse was on the 12th. I. had a scan done Friday February 14th. (transvaginally) It showed a 9.8mm gestational sac with a yolk sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat. My HCG levels are normal and steadily rising. I'm 39 and also have several small fibroids. Is this a bliggted ovum?

Hi,

Thanks for the query.

The ultrasound was done at around 6 weeks where it is expected that a fetal pole would be visible.

Chances of missed abortion cannot be ruled out considering the absence of fetal pole.

However it depends upon the machine and technical issues. If HCG levels are rising, a repeat scan after 2 weeks to detect growth and fetal pole with heart beat is advisable.
Meanwhile HCG or progesterone may be used to help maintain pregnancy until confirmation.

Hope this satisfies your query.
