Could Folliculitis Be Related To A Hormone Imbalance?

Can folliculitis be related to a hormone imbalance ?.I am a 39 year old woman who has suffered with folliculitis on my face, neck and chest (sometimes severely) for over 2 1/2 years, prescribed oxycetricyln amongst other (many antibiotics )
I am not over. Weight keep very clean and quite frankly don't know what else to try.I was recently told that I could have a hormone imbalance ( I went to a specialist about menstrual cycle being erratic & had pains etc ) But I wondered if the Hormone imbalance might be a factor in the folliculitus.

Hi dear user.
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your query.

Folliculitis is a group of skin conditions in which there are inflamed hair follicles.Folliculitis can be due to infection, occlusion, irritation, various skin diseases and hormone imbalance. It is very important to find the cause of foliculitis for an effective treatement.

Excess amounts of androgens can pose a problem, resulting in such "virilizing effects" as acne and foliculitis , hirsutism (excess hair growth in "inappropriate" places for women. Your irregular menstrual cycle might be due to hormonal imbalance, too.
My answer is :yes ,the hormone imbalance might be a factor in the foliculitis and i suggest to talk with your doctor ,to do the androgens level and an ultrasound for the possible diagnose of Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Hope i have answered to your question. If you have other quetsions ,i will be happy to help.
Thank you for using HCM.
Wish you good health.
