Could Canker Sores Be Side Effects Of Augmentin?

Hello Doctors, I was recently put on Augmentin 875mg for 10 days for a sinus problem. However, I was reading that some side effects include loose or watery stool which I got the same day I started taking it (right after the second pill). My stool was very watery for the first 2-3 times and it became loose but still a bit watery. Also, I have noticed that I have had a significant breakout of canker sores on the roof of my mouth and inner lips. I have had one or two really big canker sores prior to starting Augmentin but as soon as I started Augmentin, the sores seemed to have gotten worse. I have about 9-10 and a few more that I can see that are coming along soon. I called my doctor to ask if i should stop taking Augmentin but she has not called me back yet and its been a few hours. Im wondering if I should stop the Augmentin now and if the canker sore breakout is related? Thank you for your time.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain loose stools or diarrhea is one of the common side effects of antibiotic intake as antibiotics disturb the good bacteria present in the intestine and can cause disturbance in the complex intestinal functioning leading to diarrhea..
Canker sores in mouth also occurs as a side effect/allergic reaction to antibiotics..
But you can just relax as the symptoms are transient and will resolve once the antibiotic intake is stopped..
But in case if the condition keeps worsening consult your treating Physician and get evaluated and he can either change the antibiotic or reduce its dose.As of now you can take Loperaminde for diarrhea..
You can eat more of probiotics like Yoghurt.
Take more of foods like banana and cereals in diet..
Drink plenty of water..
For canker sores do warm saline gargles.
Gargle with 1:1 solution of benadryl and milk of magnesia..
Take a multivitamin tablet daily..
Drink plenty of water...
Avoid spicy food..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
