Constant headaches, eye pain, neck pain. Tried different medication and diets, no results. Treatment?

Hi! I have constant headaches. They last days if I don't take anything. I've taken Excedrin migraine, Excedrin tension headache, Sumatripan, and other migraine medications. They all worked and then after a while, they don't work anymore. Often times I feel like crying, I cannot concentrate, I'm in this constant estate of fuzziness, my neck hurts, my eyes hurt. I am also very moody, I snap easily. I'm just not myself. I took B12 and that helped too. I didn't have the headaches but once or twice in two months while taking the B12, but now my headaches are back for a whole week. Red Bull sometimes helps. I've played with my diet and can't find a food that triggers it. The days when I don't have the headache, I feel lots of energy, I'm happy, in a great mood. I'm very desperate now, it feels like my whole life is passing me by and I cannot enjoy anything because of these stupid headaches. I just want the pain to go away.

Thanks for writing your query.

Migraine headaches are triggered by some factors like :-
1. Lack of sleep.
2. Missed meals.
3. Excess of alcohol/smoking, if any..
4. Physical exertion.
5. Emotional/mental stress.
6. Dairy products.
7. Foods rich in MSG.
8. Change in climate.

Avoidance of these factors can decrease the frequency and severity of the attacks.

You can go for yoga and other relaxation exercises for some relief.

Painkillers like Ibuprofen one tablet twice a day after meals along with Domperidone 10 mg and an antacid like Omeprazole can help in decreasing the pain.
You can discuss with your doctor for starting Flunarizine 10 mg at night.

Also get a CT scan/MRI of head and neck to rule out other possibilities of headaches.

I hope this is helpful to you.

General & Family Physician Dr. Athish Peter Margos R's  Response
Constant headaches require proper evaluation, because the causes of headaches are many, including some serious ones and some not so serious.Neurology,ENT and ophthalmology evaluation is mandatory. Migrane is a diagnosis of exclusion, and can only be termed if all evaluation is normal. If any abnormality is detected on evaluation, then specific treatment is necessary. If diagnosed as migraine after all exclusions ,then the best that can be done is to take migraine prophylaxis and analgesics whenever required.
All the best
