Cold, Cough, Sore Throat. Pregnant, Light Headedness, Palpitations, Tiredness. Need Iron Tablets?

Hi. I have for the past week had a cold and a cough. I now have a sore throat too. I'm twenty weeks pregnant and yesterday felt very light headed all of a sudden and today I'm experiencing palpitations. I have been very tired lately under the consultant as my platelets are raised which became evident during my last pregnancy. I also became very anaemic after the birth of my son just over a year ago but my blood levels were checked a few weeks ago and my iron was fine. Platelets still sligtly raised. Should I take some iron tablets?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
You should consult a gynaecologist for antibiotics and antihistamines for sore throat and cough which is safe during pregnancy.
The iron requirement increased during pregnancy so take iron tablets because you are in the second trimester.
Good luck.
Take care.
