Child With Repetitive Episodes Of Loose Motions & Vomiting. On Flagyl And Winex. Stool Test Normal. Opinion?
My 20 months old daughter had an episode of vomiting & loose motion during May this year. We took her to the pediatric specialist and he prescribed Flagyl and winex (Cefixime) and the symptoms went away after 2 days. The same symptoms came after 2 months and doctor prescribed the same medicine and everything was fine with her after 2 days. Her stool was tested and found nothing abnormal expect 1-3 pus cells. Now again the same episode is repeating. What could be the reason? What test shall we do? For your information, we are living in Gulf.
Please check into the feeds, sometimes formula feeds may produce diarrhoeas. If the child is accepting feeds and is active 3 to 4 loose stools, small amount may just be normal, what is referred to as Gastro-colic reflex.
At present this repeat episode could be antibiotic induced diarrhoea, best treated with lactoacid-bacillus, available as Sachets, use half sachet with water per day fro about 5 days.
Diarrhoeas in children need to be treated with antibiotics if accompanied with fever, pain and loss of appetite.
