What Causes Red Spots On The Mouth After Taking Metronidazole?

25years, 5 7, 145lbs. I went to the doctor almost 2 weeks ago because I was having UTI symptoms. She put me on Cipro. It didnt work and I went back and she put me on Metronidazole. I had to stop taking it because I was becoming really sick and chronic diarareah. I have been off of it 3 days and now have a cluster or red spots on the roof of my mouth and white stuff on the sides.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Metronidazole's possible side effect is oral thrush or candidiasis. Oral thrush is a fungal infection caused by an overgrowth of Candida fungus in the mouth, which can lead to the development of red or white spots on the tongue, inner cheeks, and other areas inside the mouth. You don't need to worry, just use Nystatin drops 3 times a day, put 1, 2 drops on affected areas and swish around in your mouth for one to two minutes before swallowing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
