Child Having Loose Stools With Foul Smell. Frequent Bowel Movements After Eating. Tried Giving Econorm And Electrolyte Solution. What Can I Give Him?
My 2 .4 year old son is suffereing from loose stools with a foul smell since yesterday. He is not complaining of any pain in the stomach , but tells me that he needs to go t the toilet evrery now and then; especially after eating something. I gave him Econorm and Electrolyte solution. But he is reluctant to take it. what should I do? And what food can I give him?
hello and thanks for the query,
well going by the history your son has developed an episode of gastroenteritis and since you say it is foul smelling mostly it is bacterial, I would suggest you take him to the paediatrician and get him evaluated if he has lost too much of fluids and is dehydrated he might need fluid replacement therapy for now if he is able to take oral fluids do make him take the electrolyte solution. the doctor will start him on the suitable antibiotics and medications, a stool and blood culture maybe needed to identify the causative organism.
take care.
