Can Vaginal Discharge Cause Miscarriage?

I am 5 weeks pregnant and not experiencing an increase in vaginal discharge. I am 30 yo and overweight. The reason im concerned is because I experienced a lot of leukorrhea with my last two healthy pregnancies, 5 and 9 years ago. I had a missed miscarriage at 6 wks. in Jan. and had to have a d&c in Feb. With that pregnancy, I had no increased discharge as well. The symptoms I have this pregnancy are different and more intense however. Im so worried about another miscarriage. Is what im experiencing normal? My doctor won t even see me until im 8-9 wks.

Hi thanks for your question.
Relax, slight increase in vaginal secretions during pregnancy is normal physiological process. This is due to increase progesterone production during pregnancy. However if the secretions are too much it could be due to infection of vagina or cervix. This infection could be bacterial, viral or fungal. Viral or fungal infection if sever can lead to miscarrige.I would suggest you to consult a general practitioner if you cannot get appointment with gynaecologist He may examine you and may take vaginal smear for histopathological examination. He may prescribe you medicine depending upon the type of infection.
Hope this answers your question.
