Can Taking Birth Control Pills Continuously Cause Stomach Cramps?

I ve been having stomach cramps similar to period pains on and off for a week or two. I am currently on the pill but I do not take the break in between packs for my period and I just carry on taking the pill so that I don t have a period. I ve done this for about 6 months now. Could this be a sign that my body is telling me that it needs to have a period and to let it or could it be something else?

Hello,

Birth control pills might cause stomach cramps. You can consider progesterone only pills( POP) instead of combined pills to minimise this side effect. As of now analgesics like Mefenamic acid can be taken for pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
