Can Supplement Food Be Taken After Being Diagnosed Acute Drug Induced Renal Failure?

My dad was just released from the hospital! The diagnosis was acute drug induced renal failure! He has been treated for kidney failure over the last several years! The doctor took him off Xemplar! My dad does not have a big appetite and I was wondering if a supplement like Ensure or Boost was safe for him to take! I know it is fortified with calcium and vitamin D. He is 80 years old!
