Can Pediatric Gastro Specialist Help For Blood In Baby S Stool?

Hello doctor, this is regarding blood in the baby;s stool. We have been seeing streaks of blood on and off in her stool. Its bright red in color and we think its anal fissure. But we couldn t see any fissure in the anal walls. My pediatrician has suggested that we consult pediatric gastro specialist, since he believes blood with mucus is higher up in the rectum. What would a gastro do in this case. what tests will he run on the baby.

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

I agree with your Pediatrician for referring you to Gastroenterologist.
Other than fissure there are other causes of rectal bleeding which could be food protein allergy or even colitis.
The basis investigation required for bleeding rectum in absence of fissure are
1. Stool microscopy examination
2. Stool for reducing substance: to rule out food allergy ad cause
3. Proctoscopy

in case you require any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
