Because Medications used in therapeutic doses for acute and chronic pain appear to be relatively safe in pregnancy. To minimize fetal risk, initiate drug interventions at the lowest effective dose. Only acetaminophen is safest drug of all . Narcotics should not be used in pregnancy. It is not safe.It increases the likelihood a baby will be born small or early, or go through painful drug withdrawal. Neonatal abstinence syndrome is a collection of problems suffered by newborns exposed to addictive drugs in the womb. Infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome have longer, more complicated birth hospitalizations. Hope this answers your question.
