Can Missed Periods With Bloating Be Due To Ovarian Cysts?

I am 40 years old. I had a baby 12 months ago (3rd child). I have always had a regular and normal period (aside from when I was breastfeeding exclusively). After my last child, my period has been fairly regular. But I have now missed 2 periods. I feel bloated and have a lot of gas. I am not pregnant. My husband had a vasectomy and I took a test anyway which came back negative. Of course, I am concerned about the worst (cancer) but am thinking possible ovarian cyst???? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi,
You are unlikely to have an ovarian cyst with the symptoms described and the history. Yet, you can exclude your doubt by getting a trans-vaginal sonogram and also a clinical exam by a specialist. You are more likely to have a temporary hormonal imbalance and this could be due to several reasons like sudden weight changes, stress, infections or certain medications. Bloating indicates hormone activity and you could perhaps land up with a period in the next few days. Hope this helps.
