Can Itchy Genitals Post Sex Suggest Herpes Infection?

I had sex with a guy a feb 2010 and it was unprotected. I sometimes develop an irritation but it clears within days. This is something that I have had since I was younger, so I do not see it as uncommon. I have not developed any other signs of herpes so what are the chances of me having the virus.
