Can Introduced To New Partner Causes Pap Tests Abnormal?

yes thank you. If a woman has had a normal pap test say a year ago that shows no hpv and has recently been introduced to a new sex partner and then gets tested again and her test comes back with abnormal results. Is it definately the new partner or can it be stress or something else?

Hello,

Since there was no infection in the past the possibility of a new partner introducing infection is very high. Although the equation is not that simple as HPV can have a long incubation period (the period between the time of introduction to a period of detection/appearance). It is possible that infection was introduced earlier and manifested recently.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar, Psychiatrist
