Can High GGT Level After Alcohol Abstinence Be Liver Cancer?

I stopped drinking completely more than 6 months ago. I just had a blood test with asat 20, alat 20, and GGT 94. My doctor is presently on vacation. Does 6 months strict abstinence, with a still high GGT mean not only that I have liver damage but that it's irreversible, that the GGT will not go down with continued abstinence? Is this a sign of liver cancer?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein and I will try to help you as much as I can.

Yes, but not typical. GGT is one of liver markers which indicates liver lesion, but this alone cant give us enough info about liver condition so you should check other markers, bilirubin and do liver ultrasound at least.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
