Can 'effexor' Given For Depression Cause Uneasiness?

Okay I have been placed on 150mg of Effexor for depression as i have congenital hydrocephalus. Just say about a year ago depression was getting the best of me so I went to see my family doctor who suggested I go on effexor. It worked & after 6 months or so I was weened off it. Depression hit again after about 6 months so i was placed on it again and was up the dosage to 300mg as it wasnt working as my depression was getting worse. Well it has helped a great deal as the depression has gone but it has left me very jumpy at the slightest sounds or people coming up from in back of me. Can effexor be the cause of this?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic

Effexor contains venlafaxine and at dose higher than 300 mg, it could cause hypertension or anxiety symptoms. If you are feeling uneasiness at that dose, that would be due to its anxiety symptoms. In that case, you could try to decrease the dose up to 225 mg and get added another antidepressant like paroxetine in the treatment. That would help to overcome anxiety symptoms as well as side effects. Rest, you can discuss with your psychiatrist. In case, you need further help, you can ask.

Thanks
