Hi,

Noted your history of drained peritonsillar abscess yesterday but the pus is still draining and wants to know whether swallowing will case any problems.
Peritonsillar abscess is usually deep seated and can have extension to nearby spaces. In surgery the incision is given in space that is most suitable.
Secondly the pus can continue for up to 3 - 5 days hence you are getting it with spitting.
If your fever has settled. pain is reduced and you can comfortably swallow then do not worry for few day, the pus will drain out well with swallowing.
Swallowing such pus can cause GI disturbance and loose motions, gases and so on. Using diluted hydrogen peroxide an water and using for gargling also helps.
Continue the medicines as advised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
