Can Dog Bite Cause Arthritis?

i was bitten by a dog 15 days today. i went to the hospital and was given an injection then Saturday after a severe pains in my knee cap, rush to hospital again was given injection then exactly 1 week (2/7/2011)the pains came and doctor diagnosed arthritis.Doctor,
do you think it is the effect of the dog bite?

Good evening. Yes tehe are a few cases reported to have arthritis after a dog or cat bite or even after human bite. The bacterial organism causing it is very rare. You need to observe for swelling of the joints. It can be reactive arthritis also that is due to an infection elsewhere in the body after the dog bite. I will suggest do take a course of antibiotics( after consulting your doctor) along with NSAIDS. So we can treat both the conditions. Kindly avoid the injections for now( i am not too sure what you are taking exactly). Hope the information was useful.
