Can Cataract Surgery Be Performed In Case Of Pulmonary TB?

I AM AN EYE SURGEON I HAVE A PT DIAGNOSED TO HAVE PTB SPUTUM AFB SEEN.. ALSO HAS DENSE CATRACTS.. STARTED ON ANTI TB RX 30/11/10.. AKUNIT4 RX TILL 23 FEB 2011 THEN DEFAULTED CAN I GO AHEAD WITH THE SURGERY SINCE SHE HAS DENSE CATARACTS.. TQ DR BALBIR KPJ KAJANG ,MALAYSIA.

Hello
Since you are an expert i.e. ophthalmologist but your patient is in my opinion a M D R T B case .
So before surgery please get in FRESH X- RAY CHEST and see the extent of fresh lesions or cavities in both lungs .
Also get in blood for E S R ( if very high e.g.100 mm ) and sputum for A F B , if highly positive ++++ then postpone for some time or till sputum become negative after anti T B ( MDRTB).
However you know very well that cataract is minor surgery but after all surgery is surgery .
This is my personal experience so you know better.
