Can Autoimmune Diseases Cause Chronic Fatigue And Vitamin B12 Deficiency?

My doctors have asked me to see a rheumatologist. My symptoms include chronic ( 2 yrs) B12 deficiency with levels under or at 200. My primary complaint is chronic fatigue and I take flouextine 20mgs a day to manage depression. While on medication and with exercise I am not depressed. My RBC level is 3.65 which is under the 4-5.20 range, and my HGB is 11.9 also under the 12-16 range. I was diagnosed with post partum subacute hyperthryoiditis after my second pregnancy 7 years ago and this resolved on its own without meds in 8 months. I was diagnosed with borderline levels of gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy which was controlled with diet and exercise. My glucose level now is 89. BMI is 25.2 and I am an active (run 15 miles a week, lift weights and play soccer with my children and train my daughter in track), functioning professional and mom. I get 8 hours of sleep, yet I am exhausted. Could I have an autoimmune disease?

Yes autoimmune disease like pernicious anemia etc can lead to vit-B12 deficiency and fatigue as a symptom of that but you can also have a condition called chronic fatigue syndrome featured by profound fatigue not relieved by taking rest and can be worsened by mental or physical activity, pt will experience generalised weakness, clouding of memory, insomnia etc and for management of the condition you have to avoid extra physical activity, treatment of depression /anxiety, sleep problems, fatigue, pain etc and life style modifications, cognitive behavioural therapy etc :) get well soon :)
