Can I Use Fentanyl Instead Of Norco? Have Severe Pain

Hi. Is it appropriate to go from Norco to Fentanyl 50 mcg/hr patches?
I was taking 7 to 8 Norco's /day and having loads of breakthrough pain. My doctor added Fentanyl 25 mcg/hr patches; no difference. Then he raised it to 7 or 8 Norco's/day plus the 50 mcg/hr patches. No relief; no difference. The Mallicrkrodt literature doesn't mention Hydrocodone (Norco) in its conversion charts. Why?

Hi there ~

I understand your concern for your becoming addicted to narcotics or opioids. I also think that Norco and Fentanyl are not the same thing though they belong to a common class of medications. I do believe that sometimes it takes some time to start having the effect of the medication when you first start on it. You may have to wait for a while before you start getting pain relief. I hope this helps.

Take care and have a lovely day!
