Can HPV Cause Thick Brown Period With Less Flow?

I am 21 and was diagnosed with HPV (level 1) in september 2011. I am also taking birth control and have had regular periods. Yet this month my period is brown thick and non-abundant. Is there a chance the abnormal cells have developed to a higher grade?
