Bruising And Swelling In The Knee After A Fall. Broken Fibula Or Ligament?

Took a fall and landed on my right side 3 weeks ago. In addition to bruising , I have a swelling on the outside of my right knee just below the knee joint; most pronounced when knee is bent. Very painful to the touch and also when walking, especially after getting up after sitting for extended periods? Broken fibula or bruised ligament????

Hi!. Thanks for the query, First let me ask why you have not gone for a X Ray. Well the pain and swelling occur whem there is ligament strain ,but should reduce as the time passes. But as per your complaint it is already 3 weeks old and the symptoms are still there. Kindly get an X Ray of the knee and take the opinion of Ortho doctor. Take care. Do not neglect.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
It could be broken bone or ligament injury.Without ray it is difficult to differentiate fracture from others. I suggest you consult an orthopaedician for clinical examination. You may get Xray /MRI under his/her supervision.
Meanwhile avoid putting weight and rest well.
Hope this will helps you. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.
Regards.
Dr Saurabh Gupta.
