Are Warts On The Penis A Symptom Of HPV?

Four years ago, I had warts on my penis which my doctor treated by freezing them off. I have only had sex with 2 people - my exgirlfriend who lost her virginity with her exboyfriend (whom was also a virgin) and my current girlfriend who was a virgin when we had sex. Does this mean I have HPV and am contagious?

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Genital wart is an infection caused by Human Papilloma Virus, (HPV).
It is an STD and the only way it can be transmitted is by sexual contact with an infected partner.
Surely, you have got it from someone who is already infected with HPV.
As your warts have been already treated by freezing and since you never developed any more warts during past 4 years, it can be safely assumed that you are probably free of the infection and are no more contagious. Most of times body's own immunity takes care of the virus.
Unfortunately, in males there is no test available to detect the presence of HPV infection in the absence of visible warts and absence of the same for 4 years can be safely assumed as free of infection.
