It is an STD and the only way it can be transmitted is by sexual contact with an infected partner. Surely, you have got it from someone who is already infected with HPV. As your warts have been already treated by freezing and since you never developed any more warts during past 4 years, it can be safely assumed that you are probably free of the infection and are no more contagious. Most of times body s own immunity takes care of the virus. Unfortunately, in males there is no test available to detect the presence of HPV infection in the absence of visible warts and absence of the same for 4 years can be safely assumed as free of infection.
