Are There Any Side Effects Of Having Mirena?

Hi, I am 18, 6ft and about 75kg. I had my mirena coil fitted about 3 months ago and I've not had any problems with it as it all calmed down relatively quickly. However, recently I've accidently wet the bed during the night twice! First time was about 6 weeks ago and the most recent 2 weeks ago. I've never been a bed wetter and was quick to learn to wake up and go to the toilet as a child. I've never had the strongest of bladders (it runs in the family) but I've always managed to wake up during the night and get to the loo in time, as far as I'm concerned needing to urinate a little more often than other people is normal for myself and my family, however wetting the bed is most definitely not! I've been to the doctor and they took a urine sample but everything has come back normal. Do you have any ideas about what could be wrong with me? Could this be linked to the mirena or not? Any help and advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

Hello,

You have Mirena coil fitted three months ago. Presently you are experiencing bed wetting all of a sudden. IUD migrating to the urinary bladder is an uncommon complication. You can get clinically examined by a gynae, get abdominal ultrasonography (USG) done to determine whether the IUD is correctly positioned. You will be accordingly treated / managed. Stay away from addictions if any.

Avoid taking too much water. Taking alcohol, caffeine after dinner can also cause such problems. Medical conditions that cause such symptoms are infection of the bladder or urinary tract, overactive bladder, diabetes, etc. Get clinically assessed by a urologist, get treated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
