Are Joint Pain, Stiffness In Toes And Fingers Side Effects Of AKT4?

I have been prescribed Benadon tablet along with BPlex Forte with AKT 3 for TB. I had a small gland near my neck and was removed with surgery in August. I have started the TB treatment. For 2 months I took AKT 4. The doc. told me to take AKT 3 starting 3rd month. The total treatment will be around 7 mths. My question is is Benadon essential to be taken? as I am already taking Blex Forte. Secondly I noticed after starting the treatment, I get joint pains only on fingers and toes when Iget up in the morning. I cannot bend my toes nor fingers. Then after an hour or so I am perfectly ok. Is this the side effect of AKT? regds R. Ribeiro, India

Hi,

Benadon tablet contains pyridoxine or vitamin B6 which is necessary to prevent or treat isoniazid induced peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is the common side effect of isoniazid. So benadon tablet is required for the whole period of treatment of tuberculosis. Antitubercular medications like isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide etc, all three medications more or less can cause joints pain, arthralgia etc. Among them pyrazinamide is specially well known for joint pain as its side effects. As it may cause hyperuricemia and develop gout which can cause joints pain and arthralgia.

Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
