its not advisable to change drugs without medical consent in the management of epilepsy for three main reasons. Some patients respond preferentially to certain class of drugs. Secondly, these drugs when taken for some time with well controlled seizures, after a given seizure free period, gradual tapering of the drug could be possible and subsequent complete removal of drug and patient remaining seizure free. Thirdly, most drugs could aggravate certain seizure types.
It is not true what you were told. You might need to consult your epileptologist for a proper clinical review and a night or sleep electroencephalogramme. He should be the one to prescribe or change the child's medications.
hello, thank you for your question, well its not true that once you get active seizure it will continue so no need to worry, well from your history it seems that your daughter got episode of active seizure because of missing doses.. its extremely important in epilepsy that you take doses very regularly.. i dont think there is any need to change drug , your daughter responded well to ethosuximide last five years plus in seizure its not advisable to change drug or even brand frequently.. also consult your doctor and let him know about this episode of seizure hope this helped you ..take care...
