29 Weeks Pregnant, Swollen Vaginal Lips With Extra Skin Hanging Out. Took Anti-viral Pills, Canistan Cream. What's Wrong ?
hi i am 29 weeks pregnant. last monday i went into hospital via ambulance as i my vagina lips swelled up and inside my vagina something was hanging out. i was seen by a few midwifes to check it weren t the cord and it wasn t i was then seen by 3 doctors and they couldn t work out what was wrong with they asked me if i was allergic to anything and i told them nothing had changed, i hadn t changed my bubble bath etc. i was then seen by a consultant who was quite rude he said maybe herpes i was 100% sure it wasn t that as me and my husband took each others virginity s. they took a swab and mid-stream urine sample and put me on a course of anti-viral pills and gave me canistan cream to put on down there and i had a ice pack to put on as well. the swelling was gone by the next day. a week on and i still have some like extra skin or something inside my vagina. the swab came back with the results as clear no growth so i still don t know what is wrong with me. i have never had problems down there before.

As a pregnancy advances, there is a lot of pressure and fluid that builds up in the pelvis and genital area. This can cause some of the normal structures around the opening of the vagina to swell up and hang down. At the opening of the vagina there can be several "hymenal remnants". This is tissue that is broken open when a woman loses her virginity. Sometimes these pieces of tissue are not noticeable. Then during the later stages of pregnancy, the tissue can fill with fluid and stick out. The tissue sticking out can get red and irritated.
I hope that there isn't anything serious going on. But if you've already been checked completely, it's not likely to be anything concerning.
