17 Weeks Pregnant And Suffering From Insomnia

Not sure why, but for some strange reason I can't sleep at night. Sometimes I stay up all night long, not being able to fall asleep 'til 8 or 9am. If you could give me any advice as to falling asleep and staying sleep, I would greatly appreciate it.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi, thanks for the question
Common causes of sleepless in pregnancy (other than psychiatric causes) include: physical discomfort because of protuberant abdomen, associated increased reflux, worry associated with the state of well-being of self and fetus, more particularly in 1st pregnancy, more common in females who are working or heavy household workers, ladies taking complete rest, sleeping for a long period n the day time, not maintaining sleep hygiene (like taking coffee or beverages before sleep, watching TV at bed time, taking heavy meal etc.). Better to avoid medicines. Understanding and following some of the above-mentioned causes will help. Good luck and wish you and child a good health
