Posted on Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Question: I am a female, age 55, 5'8", 200 lbs. I am on 12 mcg fentanyl patch. I used two patches one time so now am one patch short. I go for urine test Tuesday; it is now Friday. If I use my last patch now (about 100 hours before my appt) will the fentanyl still show up in a urine test?

Brief Answer:
probably not, but can't be sure

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

fentanyl cannot usually be detected 48-72 hours after use. Norfentanyl (a metabolite) can be detected in a significant percentage of patients after 96 hours (more than 50%). It depends on the urine test methodology and sensitivity. If you don't want it to be detected then you would need more time to be sure.

Of course, trying to cheat a prospective employer is not a good thing and in many cases not in your interest.

Kind Regards!

No. I want to make sure that the Fentanyl does show up for my PM doctor. I need to make sure that it is still in my system

Brief Answer:
it may be detected but can't be sure

Detailed Answer:
I see... I'm sorry about my assumption, although I don't quite understand why your doctor would want to detect it.

Anyway, as I've told you it depends on the test sensitivity and what the test may detect. If the test only detects fentanyl then it would probably be negative. If the test also detects the metabolites then it may be positive but even then it's not certain.

A shorter time between the last dose and the test would be required for better chances of detection (2-3 days at most).

Kind regards!
