What Symptoms To Look For After A Head Injury?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Mar 2017
Question: My husband's 28 year old son works in furniture removal and has just come home from work after knocking his head. He seems OK, but has gone to bed and is now asleep.
Just wondering if the fact that he is sleeping is a sign of a concussion or (at least,)a worse knock than we thought? Also, do we need to keep an eye on him, or should we be glad he is a sleep and leave him to it?
Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Watch him for 24 hours...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Based on the information provided, I did not notice any concerning issue. I assume that he did not lose consciousness after injury. Further he did not vomit or complaint of headache. These are unfavorable symptoms.

Since he was alright before he went to sleep, chances of serious head injury or concussion are exceedingly poor. So I would not be concerned. Yet, it is advisable to watch him for a period of 24 hours. If he has no problem during the next 24 hours, you can stay rest assured.

Hope I am clear. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
